The wife of Taita Taveta governor John Mruttu has urged the church to spearhead the fight against sexual defilement in the county. Hope Mruttu noted that the war against child abuses cases would not be won without the full support of all relevant stakeholders like the churches.
Mruttu noted that hundreds of young girls had dropped out of school due to defilement and early marriages and pregnancies. She stated that churches had an important role to play as the bulk of the victims and perpetrators of sexual violence were members of churches in the region.
She made the remarks at Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi town where she visited three victims of sexual violence admitted at the health institution.
