Ryan Giggs’ estranged dad has backed him over allegations he assaulted his girlfriend. Danny Wilson, 65, said: “I just don’t believe it... Ryan may be a womaniser but he’s not violent.” Mr Wilson fell out with the football star over his affair with brother Rhodri’s then-wife.

But ex-rugby league pro Danny said of Ryan, now suspended as manager of the Welsh national side: “I haven’t talked to him about this but I back him all the way - it’s just not him.” He added: “I don’t know what happened but I can tell you my son is not a violent person.”
Giggs, 46, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend Kate Greville, 36. Police had been called to his £1.7million home in Worsley, Greater Manchester. Giggs, whose bail conditions bar him from contacting Kate, denies the allegations.

Giggs had been at Hotel Football, in Manchester, which he co-owns, earlier in the day to see Manchester United's 1-0 defeat by Arsenal. He is then believed to have gone to the Stock Exchange Hotel, which he also co-owns, in the city. Giggs has been dating Kate on and off since 2017.
