Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s wife, Primrose Mbuvi, is fearing for the safety of her husband whom she says she has not seen since Friday the 18th of May.

Speaking to K24, Primrose – Nairobi’s First Lady - stated that Sonko has kept away from the city after his security detail was scaled down.

“Since Friday, sijaona my husband, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. He has not been around in his Nairobi home because of the security, he fears for his life,” said Primrose.

Primrose said that Sonko was fearing for his life, wary of what will happen. She added that their children are fearful of their new reality.

“Security has been withdrawn; both for night and day. All have been taken away including his bodyguards. We are living in fear; especially the children who are not used to this kind of life,” she disclosed.

She explained that she was all alone, “like now we are sleeping alone, we don’t know what will happen. We only have hopes in our God.”

This comes following revelation that Governor Sonko’s allocation of 26 bodyguards was drastically reduced to 5 in what the police service termed as an irregular allotment.

Commenting on the matter, police spokesman Charles Owino reiterated that the withdrawal was part of a recall of 5,000 officers who were irregularly attached to VIPs.

“In the case of Sonko we only took what is in excess and left the maximum number of security as required. So he has sufficient security,” said Owino.

Governor Sonko has in the past few days been holed up in his expansive Machakos home situated at Mua Hills where he has held several meetings with County Executive Committee members.
