We have all had of the saying ‘uchungu wa mwana aujuae mzazi.’ This saying carries a much bigger meaning than what most of us think. The pain of a mother is first evident when she gives birth to a child; some say the pain can be compared to being burned alive. It is this pain that forms a unique bond between the mother and the child.

Sometimes when I do things that piss off my mum I can’t help it but feel guilty. Mothers do all they can to protect us from any harm, even if they will hurt us a little bit. They bought us the best clothes when we were young, always made sure we did not sleep hungry and try as much as possible to give us a comfortable life.

Looking at today’s generation, the youth have turned out to be a real pain in the neck. In this case, the men and women rose by single mothers. Most youth engage in activities that are unpleasant. A mother will toil to pay the school fees, pay rent, and feed you even if it means she does not buy anything for herself. This is how selfless mothers are. They always put their needs before their children and they will always defend them whenever necessary.

I have had of cases where a man rapes his mother, beats her or even kill her. Sometimes, I view this as mental cases because no man in his right mind would do that to his own mother. It really hurts me when such news makes headlines. They are annoying and irritating.

When in campus, most students would lie about going for trips so as to get money to go raving. In fact, students lie to their parents a lot to get money for all kinds of reasons. When you take a look at most of these students, you will find that they come from needy backgrounds where the parents toil so hard to even get the school fees.

Motherly advice has been constantly ignored forgetting that the advice is for our own good. A mother always knows what’s best for her child and will always give the right advice. Your mother should be your best friend.

I was once told that making your mother cry is a curse. Why would anyone want to be cursed and end up living a miserable life? Showing a little respect doesn’t hurt. Mothers should be celebrated on a daily basis and not just on mother’s day. We should be grateful that we have someone who loves and cares deeply for us more than anyone ever will, not even your spouse.

For those who love their mothers and treat them right, thumbs up. For those who don’t, remember that you will one day become a mother or parent and you will understand the pain of being ill-treated by your child.
