Angry Narok residents attempting to forcefully circumcise Brownie.

There was drama in Narok town after a lorry driver was forced to ‘face the knife’ in broad daylight.

The man, nicknamed ‘Brownie,’ was frogmarched by boda boda riders, who tied him up and drove him to a nearby river where they had planned to circumcise him.

It is alleged the man had the habit of insulting people as kihii, which means ‘an uncircumcised man.’

Speaking to The Nairobian, one of the boda boda riders, Joseph Kariuki, said his girlfriend informed them that Brownie wasn’t circumcised, and they decided to teach him a lesson.

“We got a tip off from one of his girlfriends that he was not circumcised. We were perturbed and wanted to confirm it,” he said, adding that, “Ironically, he has been insulting people by referring to them as kihii (uncircumcised), yet he was not circumcised. We laid an ambush on him and when we stripped him, we confirmed that he was indeed uncircumcised.”

The boda boda riders bundled him into a mkokoteni and paraded him naked in the streets of Narok town.

Kariuki told The Nairobian that they then raised Sh7,000 “circumcision fee” before taking him to Enkare-Narok river where they washed him in readiness for circumcision.

However, the ‘ceremony’ was cut short by police who fired several shots in the air and dispersed the curious crowd that had gathered to witness the circumcision.

Residents said they were incensed by the man’s failure to undergo the rite of passage as it was against the Kikuyu customs.

“Our culture stipulates that a boy must be circumcised to earn respect and become a man. This man is an embarrassment and we will stop at nothing until he faces the knife like other men,” vowed John Ngugi.

Ngugi said  it was disappointing that the man was married with two kids, yet he was still uncircumcised, saying that after circumcision, even his wife will be ‘happy’.

“We will not allow him back to the stage until he is circumcised. His wife deserves better and we are sure he will thank us later,” he said.

Area OCPD Joseph Kisombe said that the man was taken into police custody and later went to Narok County Hospital where he finally gathered courage and faced the cut.

Apparently, immediately after the ‘minor surgery’, the man hired a taxi and fled to his ancestral home in Murang’a County where he had allegedly run away from over 20 years ago.
