Seven people died in an accident at Kibunde bridge along the Bungoma-Bokoli-Kimilili road yesterday.
A matatu collided head-on with a lorry that was ferrying sand.
Among those killed was a father and his son who was being taken back to school.
Bungoma County Commissioner Maalim Mohamed said the lorry was heading to Bungoma town during the 3pm accident.
"I can authoritatively confirm that seven people are dead while five others were rushed to hospital in critical condition. The death toll may increase because it was a serious accident," he said.
