News of Finland's four-day work week are a distant dream

Several news reports had recently emerged that the Finnish people could soon enjoy the benefits of working four days a week. The condensed workweek would also consist of six-hour workdays.

This followed proposals made by the newly installed Prime Minister of Finland Sanna Marin in August 2019, while she was still the Minister of transport.

Ms Marin, 34, the leader of the ruling Social Democratic Party (SDP), took office in December 2019. While she, in theory, is supportive of a reduced workweek going by her August sentiments, it is not part of the Finnish government's plans. It is also not expected to be a government policy in the near future.

The Finnish government gave an official correction on twitter over the issue. This was after widespread news reports that the shorter workweek envisaged by Ms Marin was going to be an official government policy.

The policy is more of the Social Democratic Party's vision and potential goal for the future, as confirmed by an official from Ms Marin's Office.
