Ferry users at the Likoni crossing channel were yesterday left in shock after a bus slid backwards towards the ocean moments after disembarking from a ferry.
In a video clip that is circulating on social media, ferry users are heard shouting for help as the Kenyatta University bus drifts back and nearly plunges into the Indian Ocean.
Kenya Ferry Services Managing Director Bakari Gowa said the bus failed to ascend a ramp after disembarking from MV Likoni at the mainland south ramp.
Mr Gowa said only the driver was in the bus. The rest of the passengers had alighted before the vehicle boarded the ferry.

In the video clip, the driver can be seen struggling to ascend the ramp, but his efforts fail, and the bus starts to slide backwards towards the ocean. Onlookers run towards the ocean and help push the bus to stop it from sliding further into the sea.
The driver was later assisted by ferry staff and was able to ascend the ramp safely. “We always advise motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition so as to climb the hill,” Gowa said
