One missing officer in Wajir explosive attack found alive

A police officer who went missing yesterday after their vehicle ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been found alive.

The officer was found at the forest near the spot where the incident occurred.

Reports say the officer was discovered by local residents who notified the police. He was airlifted to Wajir where he is undergoing medication and is now in stable condition.

The officer will, however, be airlifted to Nairobi for specialized assessment.

The officer was among the 11 Administration Officers who were on patrol, on Saturday morning, between Khorof Harar and Konton village along the Kenya Somalia border before they ran into IED.

As per Sunday morning, 8 soldiers were confirmed dead after succumbing to injuries. One of the deceased officers has been laid to rest.

One officer is still missing and search operation is ongoing.

Several local leaders from the region condemned the attack and urged the Government to beef up security in the region and promised never to relent on Alshabab.

“This is a war against us…we have vowed and we will not relent until we get rid of anybody associated with Alshabaab. We can’t allow them to kill our innocent men and women of our region,” Said Mohamed Abdi, Governor Wajir County.

Other leaders also condemned the incident terming it “unacceptable.” They pledged to commit themselves in helping the government in ensuring that such attacks are contained in future.
