Why Babu Owino’s speech to be read at Matiba’s funeral has Kenyans talking

Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has got the attention of Kenyans on social media after he put up a speech on his Facebook page, claiming he will read it during former Opposition leader Kenneth Matiba’s funeral.

Kenyans on social media found the initial part of Babu’s speech somewhat amusing. He begins be cautioning that he will take the least time possible to read the speech.

“Good Afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen. I will be as brief as a cock on a hen. Today we gather to mourn the passing of a lover of liberty and an irrepressible fighter for justice…” read part of the speech.

He goes on to praise Matiba for what he has done for the State, saying the deceased had a vision of a corruption-free country and that he believed in the power of truth.

“Matiba had the vision for a corruption free Kenya, but even the people who’ve converted Kenya into a free corruption zone are here and crying more than the bereaved. MATIBA FORGIVE THEM….” He said.

Kenyans will get the chance of viewing Matiba’s body on Wednesday and Thursday before it is cremated on Friday. He will be accorded State funeral services.

Kenyans took note of Babu’s introduction and questioned the credibility of the account and whether this would be the actual speech read at the funeral.
