Investigations show 'mystery eye-witness' has a criminal record

The man who caught the attention of Kenyans after being a key witness to two critical accidents has a criminal record, according to Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.

"He is being detained in one of the stations. We want to know his character, who is this man? Even the identity we need to know... you might find he is Ugandan," said Muhoro.

Denis Muigai Ngengi who appeared at the scenes of the October 21 Nakuru air crash and the November 7 accident was interviewed and gave detailed accounts of the incidents.

This left many Kenyans wondering who he was and how he got to witness two major incidents where Kenyans lost lives.

Denis claimed to be a State pilot who was well acquited with the pilot of the ill-fated craft in the Nakuru crash while he claimed to have been behind Nyeri Governor’s vehicle before it crashed on the rail guard.

Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet assured Kenyans that investigations were ongoing to prove if Denis is really a police officer and what he was doing at both scenes at the time of the accidents.

After being arrested on November 9, investigations revealed that Denis had been charged in 2014 for impersonating a Kenya Airforce Officer in Kwale law court.

He failed to pay his bail and an arrest warrant was issued against him.
