The ongoing Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment must remain corruption-free as promised by its bosses.
Much is expected of the current recruitment as previous ones reported numerous cases of corruption, nepotism and favouritism.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the National Intelligence Service and other integrity watchdogs should put in tight measures to ensure there is no room for corruption in the exercise. Kenyans must be wary of fraudsters promising to secure them places in return for money.
Young men and women keen on joining KDF should not seek shortcuts. They should carry valid documents to prove their qualifications. Many had waited for this opportunity as the job market gets flooded.
This exercise should therefore be conducted fairly. Female candidates should not be turned away. Instead, KDF must allocate at least a third of the slots for women. In this era of gender equality, ladies should also be given an equal opportunity in the military.
