Politics of resurrection, re-alignments are quite common and very rife in Elgon ahead of the general elections. With barely less than a year to the 2017 polls, local politicians are already at each other’s neck.

 Losers of the 2013 General elections are already resurfacing with bated interest in clinching same posts in the coming elections. The famous political battle being parliamentary seat between Fred Kapondi, his counterpart John Bomet Serut and Harry Kimtai.

Dissatisfaction have emerged among the residents about the current MP, most claiming the best he has done is issuing CDF funds, with a section proudly supporting him for reasons they have kept it to themselves.

However conflicting opinions have emerged over Fred Kapondi's candidature, some residents claiming he has no Elgon interest at heart since he has exiled himself for the last four years while a minority believing he can bring change.

The new comers: Peter Kibet Sirai, and others have the advantage but are yet to show convincing interest to residents across the mountain. Moreover, Elgon voters have been disappointed with some MCA's and a plot of mass exit has been plotted by the residents for these members of the county assembly.

Elgon politicians have always been about their social class, leaving the normal mwananchi languishing in poverty for almost decades now. Some of the cries the residents have raised but just to fall on deaf ears are;

1. Embezzlement of funds of Kapsokwony- Kimilili road which was to be launched during the President Kibaki era which was the first and to date is the last tarmacked road (unfinished) in Mt. Elgon constituency.

2. Lack of clean, safe water by residents who drink directly from muddy river waters yet the rivers are barely 5km apart.

3. Lack of electricity in most areas despite rural electrification authority implementation by national government.

4. Muddy unpassable roads of which have led to aspirants campaigning in gumboots as they seek suppport from electorates.

5. Claims of mismanagement of the CDF funds which ended up in court.

Despite residents’ cries there have been no one to their rescue.

STEP UP ELGON!!!!!
