Kibabii University has been closed indefinitely after
students went on the rampage yesterday. The students held demonstrations, paralyzing
transport and businesses along the busy Chwele-Bungoma highway.
The police, who were called in to quell the protests, were
overpowered by the rioting students. Vice Chancellor Odeo Ipara said the
students had complained of shortage of chairs and mixed examinations results.
"We had resolved some of the grievances raised by the
student council but it seemed they were hell-bent on causing chaos," he
said.
