Nyeri, Kenya: Former President Mwai Kibaki's family is in mourning after losing a loved one on Madaraka day in Othaya, Nyeri county.
Bernard Nderitu Kibaki ,87, died at his home in Kerere village on Monday after collapsing, which the family claim could be pneumonia.
Family members, neighbours and friends gathered at the home to console the family including his widow Martha Njeri, who was with him when he died.
Njeri explained that when he woke up in the morning, they had breakfast together but he was complaining of too much cold.
The widow described her husband as a kind man, who did not like to quarrel.

John Kibaki, son to the late Nderitu, explained that his father had been suffering from a bout of pneumonia.
"My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2003. Since then, he had been receiving treatment and the disease was in remission, however, during the cold season, he often had pneumonia and we suspect that could be the reason he collapsed," he said.
