The dilemma of dating a friend’s sister

When it comes to their sisters, most men have unwritten law for their friends—they can look at the fair siblings only through brotherly eyes.

I have been trying to figure out what would make a guy mad at his friend for going after his lovely sister, and I found some answers.

Jealousy

Making new friends for some guys is one of the most difficult endeavours.

Apart from a deskmate they had since primary school and a village mate or two, some men have never added another friend to their lives.

That is why they would not take it kindly to lose a pal to virtually anyone including a sister. They know that once their fair sibling enters the scene; a brother would definitely be relegated to the backseat of a friendship that was once vibrant.

Boy talk

When boys are alone, their favourite talk is food, football, beer and sex (not necessarily in that order). Which man would want to hear his sister’s sex life been discussed by a friend.

Expect more from a sister

Most men expect that when their sister brings home a potential mate, it will be somebody no family member has seen before. Now just imagine the disappointment a man will have after eagerly waiting to meet his sister’s boyfriend and he turns out to be his gap-toothed friend Joe. All the mystery about him would be wiped away in a second.

Fear of sister being dumped

Friends know each others weaknesses in maintaining relationships. Therefore, when a guy knows his friend has a history of breaking women’s hearts, the last person he would want to see him hook up with is his sister.

Here are some tips for men who may want to date a friend’s sister.

Be a gentleman and ask him whether or not he minds you dating his sister.

Show respect to him by acknowledging his feelings. If he does not give you the green light, go directly to the girl’s father because that is the person who really matters especially when you have the intentions of marrying the girl.

Dating a friend’s sister is never going to be easy, but if you are really into her, it’s worth overcoming the obstacles.
