Swimmers dived into the pool kicking of Kenya High School’s celebrations to mark 100 years of academic excellence.

A carnival mood engulfed the poolside as students and parents cheered competitors drawn from top schools countrywide.

Kenya High that posted their best ever performance in KCSE this year with a mean of 10.23 also emerged victorious during the inter-schools swimming gala.

Alliance Girls that was the best girls’ school in the exam in Central Province was runner’s up in the competition.

Vanessa Omollo of Kenya High emerged the best overall swimmer after leading in several heats and relay. Swimmers Patricia Mburu and Ashley Gathoni also carried high the school’s flag.

Starehe Boys Centre and School, Alliance Boys’, Lenana, Nairobi School and Moi Nairobi Girls participated in the competition.

The schools cheered their swimmers on. Old girls also participated in competitions that included chain and blind races where swimmers were blindfolded before diving in.

"We excel in both academics and co-curricular activities especially swimming where our students participate in international competitions every year," says Kenya High School deputy principal Petronilla Mumo.

Kenya High (popularly Boma) won the Total Kenya Gold Award on environment in December last year.

Mumo says their best students in national examinations also excelled in co-curricular activities nationally and internationally.

"Our students have represented the country international academic and co-curricular activities," she says. They represented the country in a swimming competition in South Africa last year and at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani.
