With the resumption of the league championships in Vihiga County this afternoon, defending champions Kenya Police face an acid test against their perennial rivals Kenya Defence Forces in the fight for top honours.
The rivalry between the two teams, which provide bulk of national team players, has been the joy of the league championships for the past decade and it will not be any different this afternoon.
They will be joined by former champions Kenya Prisons who have been on a recruiting mission for the past one year and have involved their boxers in a number of friendly matches.
"When the league resumes, it's when we'll test these boxers against some experienced opponents," said coach Bernard Ngumba after they defeated Ongata Rongai Boxing Club recently.
Super heavyweight champion Fred Ramogi said he was ready for the battle at an event that should improve his fitness in readiness for the two legs of the World Olympic Qualifiers after he failed to make it at the Africa Olympic Qualifiers to Paris Olympics in Dakar, Senegal.
"I'm ready for the league championships as it provides an opportunity for all of us to exploit our talents as we get ready for the next international assignments," said Ramogi.
Former Commonwealth Games flyweight bronze medallist Christine Ongare who boxes for Kenya Police is equally ready for the big challenge.
"My fitness levels are still intact following my participation in a number of international assignments this year. Taking part in such local events is also a morale booster besides shaping us for the crucial competitions," said Ongare.
