The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) has moved to re-assure athletes that money is not a problem in the wake of scathing criticism by team captain Wesley Korir.

Uasin Gishu County has committed to cater for local allowances for the 56 track and field athletes while Nandi County have offered Sh1m for men’s and women’s rugby 7’s teams.

However, Nock are still tight-lipped on training and competition kit after Korir who will represent Kenya in Marathon ignited a firestorm on Tuesday in what he said was “old school way of doing things.”

“There have been delays in shipment of training and competition kits, payment of local and overseas allowances,” Korir, the Cherang’any MP said.

Stephen Arap Soi, the team’s Chef De Mission to Rio Olympics, however, re-assured the athletes of availability of funds even as Nock treasurer Fridah Shiroya complained of a deficit issuing from the national trials on June 30.

“The Government has facilitated the Olympic team to the tune of Sh583m. Nock has never stated that they don’t have enough money from the Ministry of Sports for the Rio Olympics,” said Soi.

The remarks follows similar assurances from Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario.

“We are good to go. There is enough money. We will pay all overseas allowances here. We will even clear unpaid cash rewards pending from 2011 Daegu World Championships. Just get us the list,” said Wario. Richard Ekai, the Sports Principal Secretary,
