Turkana, Kenya: A 25 year-old man died after a mining mission ended tragically in Nadwat, Nakalale Division of Turkana West Sub-County.

Speaking to The Standard on Saturday, Thomas Eipa, a survivor said they had gone to the gold mine but the wall caved in as they embarked on their daily routine of mining.

He said they descended in turns, and when it was Joseph Nakaturon's  turn, he advised him not to dig a side that looked 'dangerous' but he was adamant.

Eipa explained that he heard a loud bang before the walls of the mine collapsed. Jimmy Loree, a clinical officer and Kenya Red Cross team led the rescue operation.
