When President Uhuru Kenyatta alongside his Deputy William Ruto unveiled the second batch of nominated Cabinet secretaries yesterday, residents of Nandi County were a happy lot.

This came after the President named Felix Kiptarus Koskei as the Cabinet Secretary for Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

Koskei, who hails from Ainabngetuny village, Tinderet District, schooled at Tachasis Primary school, a local school within the village before joining Metetei high school.

Residents who spoke to The Standard on phone described Koskei as a dedicated person who has always embraced development issues at the grassroots level.

“We were following the unveiling of the Cabinet at my home together with residents. When we heard his name announced, we literally broke into ululations and dance,” Boniface Tenai, a resident.

SENIOR POSITION

Tenai said it is the first time a person from the village was being appointed to a senior position in the Government after a long time.

“No one from this district has been appointed to a top position for a very long time. We have confidence in him and we are sure that he will deliver,” added Tenai.

Residents said Koskei participated in development projects.

“Last year, Koskei helped in raising Sh5 million to aid in the construction of a school within the district. He has been actively involved in the construction of local roads,” explained Joseph Chumo, a resident.
