The captain of the team that lost the main cup at the Kenya International Polo tournament last weekend says this weekend’s event will be a different ball game.

Two-goal Mini Trappe, who captained Isuzu Tosha to a runner-up position, has brought on board his half-brother 25-year-old Hansi Bruins, also handicap two, and rested Chris Foot in this week’s eight-12 goal tournament starting tomorrow at the Nairobi Polo Club.

Trappe will, thus line up with sensational South African Sbu Duma (3), Raphael Nzomo (0.5) and Bruins. Their first match tomorrow will be against Dasani with five-goal South African Brad McGibbon, Julian Camm (2.5), Quentin Savage (1.5) and Mbugua Ngugi. This is a completely new team for Dasani, who last week fielded Tarquin Gross (2.5), Anthony Gross (1.5), Llewellyn Dyer (0.5) and Michael Dyer (1.5).

“This is a more senior level, indeed the highest level being played in Kenya. It is a vest fast, furious hard-driving polo, unlike last week’s event which was four to six goal,” said Trappe.

General Motors-sponsored Isuzu Tosha lost 6-4 to Sandstorm, a team composed of players from North Kenya, Casimir Gross (4), Topper Murray (0.5), Sacha Craig (-0.5) and Gordon Murray (1.5). “My half-brother is a very talented young player. We are going to be tight on our marking and calm on ball play and I think we have a good chance to win,” said Trappe, who at 33, is seven years Bruin’s senior.

He said with a team handicap of 7.5, compared to Dasani’s 10, Heritage Insurance’s 10.5, Standard Offshore’s 11.5, Sandstorm’s 9.5 and CFC Stanbic’s 12, will give them a handicap start because of the given goals.
