Following the whole Chris Brown and Rihanna fiasco it seems there really does lie a thin line between love and hate. What started out as sweet puppy love has played out into scandal that has kept fans guessing about what really went down between the couple.
The facts
• Chris and Rihanna were an R&B golden couple who claimed they were not dating but were very good friends.
• On Saturday, they both attended a Clive Davies’s pre-Grammy party and left in the same car.
• Early Sunday morning a call is placed to 911 from a neighbourhood in Hollywood, Police arrive to find an injured woman who identifies her attacker as Chris Brown. The woman’s identity is not revealed as required by law but speculation is rife that it may have been Rihanna.
• Both Chris Brown and Rihanna cancel Grammy award performances. Rihanna’s claims to have been involved in an accident while Chris is under investigation on assault allegations.
• Chris Brown turns himself in and is charged with issuing criminal threats. Rihanna is identified as the victim by the press.
• Chris Brown loses Wrigley’s and Got Milk endorsements while Rihanna cancels Malaysian tour and planned 21st birthday bash.
• Chris Brown hires Michael Jackson’s defence lawyer to plead his case.
Myths and speculation
The rumour mills are spinning like never before. There are nasty and untrue claims that Chris Brown attacked Rihanna because she gave him an infection. This story seems to have been cooked from previous picture of the couple dancing in Dublin that showed Rihanna spotting what looked like a cold sore on her upper lip. Another rumour is that Chris Brown is gay. Apparently this is claimed to be the reason the fight broke out. Apparently, Rihanna confronted Chris with the rumour that he was a bit too close with his best friend and he went nuts. However, unlike other R&B stars Chris Brown’s sexuality has never been widely questioned.
Things took a turn for the worse and Chris Brown attacked her before driving off and leaving her by the roadside. Last, it has also been claimed that Chris Brown is jealous of Rihanna’s blossoming career. She was after all headlining the Grammy event with her image used to advertise the event.
With the alleged bruises on her face the singer was unable to perform. However Chris Brown’s career was also on the up and up. Some have also claimed their age maybe a factor seeing that being in a serious relationship while being so young and in the spotlight may have put undue pressure on the two. The general consensus though is that violence is not the answer.
The irony
While it has indeed been a sad situation one can’t help but note the irony of the situation. For one there was an umbrella in the car, which fortunately was not used as an attack weapon. And for two the singers both have songs that seem have been prophesying the scandal. Fans have been using these titles to explain the situation. Sample this:
Chris Brown and Rihanna left the Clive Davies party under an Umbrella but when they got into the car there was some Disturbia over his being Unfaithfull. She told him to Shut Up And Drive or go to Rehab. At this point Chris decided to Take Her Down from Wall To Wall. He Took A Bow, said Excuse me Miss, then Run It possibly Forever. Rihanna sent an SOS and gave the police a Pon De Replay but asked the Grammy organisers to Please Don’t Stop The Music…mama se mama se mama-kosa. Now they both must learn how to Live Your Life with No Air.
The truth
Chris Brown has already lost endorsements and his squeaky clean image. Let’s note that scandals do not do R&B singers any favours. Think Bobby Brown and Tevin Campbell. Rihanna will gain sympathy and hate in equal measures. Her bold move to assist the police with investigation is seen as a strong message to men and a woman involved in assault cases but by a few misguided souls, it has been seen as snitching.
