Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua took the battle to NASA Principal Kalonzo Musyoka, saying the race was a contest between him and the Wiper leader.
“This victory is very special because it was a competition between me and Kalonzo who put together all his political arsenal. It was not about Wavinya’s candidature but the removal of Mutua,” the governor said shortly after he was declared winner.
He accused Kalonzo of investing too much effort in scuttling his (Mutua’s) development agenda. “We won because we wanted to show that development is more important than sycophancy,” he said.
Mutua was declared winner with 238,405 votes against Wavinya’s 199,257.
But in an earlier press conference, Wavinya rejected the outcome of the election and vowed to pursue other mechanisms to recover her “stolen victory”.
