A Nairobi-based High Court advocate has taken legal action after a night of revelry ended in betrayal and theft at his Kahawa West home. The dramatic incident unfolded on the night of May 14, after the advocate spent the evening socialising and drinking at a local club.
According to police reports, the lawyer, whose identity has been withheld, was enjoying his favourite drinks when a stunning woman, later identified as Elizabeth Njoroge, approached him.
Though a stranger, she quickly won his attention, and the two shared rounds of drinks into the evening.
Around 9 pm, the advocate decided to head home. Elizabeth offered to accompany him, and he obliged, even purchasing takeaway alcohol for the nightcap.
Once home, he had a few more sips before blacking out from intoxication.
Unbeknownst to him, that moment marked the beginning of a calculated theft as the woman allegedly helped herself to an array of valuables, including an Apple MacBook, a BlackBerry smartphone, a leather briefcase, gym gear, Adidas sports shoes, and more, collectively valued at Sh187,400.
She is said to have packed the items in the briefcase and quietly slipped away.
The advocate woke at 5:30 am to discover the theft. In a twist of fate, the next day, while out at a different club near his home, he spotted the woman and immediately alerted the police. Officers swiftly responded and arrested the suspect.
Elizabeth Njoroge was arraigned before Senior Principal Magistrate Renee Kitagwa, where she was charged with theft under Section 268(1) of the Penal Code, read with Section 275. She was released on Sh50,000 cash bail or a bond of Sh100,000.
The matter will be mentioned on 30 June for pretrial, during which hearing dates are expected to be set.
