Egerton University has announced the installation of Prof Isaac Kibwage as the sixth Vice-Chancellor of the Njoro-based institution.
Prof Kibwage awaits to fully take over the realm of leadership, barely days after the institution was closed down after staff went on strike lamenting over slashed salaries without their consent.
“Following the strike by university teaching staff which has disrupted learning in the institution, the Senate at its 533rd meeting held on Thursday, November 25, resolved to close the university with immediate effect until further notice,” the memo read in part.
The former DVC (Administration, Planning and Development) at the institution will be installed on December 17, 2021.
He takes over from Professor Rose Mwonya who retired last year. Professor Kibwage is a professional in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry. He previously served as the Academic Research, Financial and Administrative head of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Nairobi.
