NAIROBI: Parts of the country have started experiencing the expected El Nino.
Early warnings show the heavy rains may have dire consequences, with some parts already experiencing floods.
According to the latest report by the Kenya Red Cross, heavy rainfall is being witnessed in Homa Bay, Kitui, Turkana, Narok, Siaya, Elgeyo Marakwet and Narok counties.
Other counties that have shown signs of the El Nino rains are Bungoma, Kakamega, Busia, Marsabit and Kericho.
In Bungoma for instance, heavy rainfall was witnessed Thursday and a school in Kamachei flooded; three classrooms were affected.

In Turkana County, heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds, destroyed approximately 200 houses and two churches in Katilu, Turkana South.
In Lodwar, 10 rooftops were blown off by the violent winds. No casualties were reported in both cases.
In Chalbi desert, Marsabit North, 1,762 livestock and 14 donkeys were swept away with 25 goats being swept away in Laisamis.
The Kenya Red Cross in collaboration with the county and national governments were held in a meeting to assess the damage.
