Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok

LODWAR: The government of Turkana yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Lundin Foundation, a Canadian social investment organisation based in Kenya, to revive Lodwar Youth Polytechnic.

The MoU, which was signed at the office of Governor Josphat Nanok, marks the start of the implementation process of the project and the collaboration between the county government and the foundation.

''As a county, we are happy that we can now cement the talks we started a while ago with an agreement. I truly appreciate the Lundin Foundation for coming in to support us in the area of building skills,'' Mr Nanok said.

Nanok said the partnership has come at the right time when the county is grappling with low levels of education.

Charlotte Ward, the regional head of the Lundin Foundation, said she wants to raise the standards of education at the polytechnic.

"The Lundin Foundation is excited to be working with the county government and in coordination with the Ministry of Education to enable the Lodwar Youth Polytechnic to deliver the highest standards of technical qualifications. We hope this partnership will set a great example for skills training in Kenya," saidMs Ward.

ASSURED SUPPORT

The County Executive for Education Margaret Kuchal praised the foundation and offered to support in the project's execution.

''I thank the foundation for their patience until now when we are signing the MoU. I want to assure you of our support throughout the partnership," said Ms Kuchal.
