Tusker’s struggles in the FKF premier league continued on Sunday after failing to score in their fourth consecutive match this season.

The brewers marked their return to local scene after being eliminated from the Caf Confederation Cup with a barren draw against Sofapaka.

Robert Matano’s charges were hoping to hit the ground running in the premier league after failing to score in the Caf assignments where they were eliminated on a 1-0 aggregate score by CS Sfaxien of Tunisia.

Previously, the 13-time Kenyan champions had lost 3-0 to Kariobangi Sharks in their last match last month.

The last time Tusker scored a goal was on November 3 when they defeated Kenya Police 2-1.

The recent results now put the defending champions one point above the relegation zone.

Despite boasting of three games in hand, Tusker have to improve on their performance if they are to keep up with the pace of the league that's controlled by Gor Mahia and Kakamega Homeboyz.

Gor and Homeboyz maintained their unbeaten run in the league despite posting identical draws.

K’Ogalo drew 0-0 against Bandari which moved them to the summit of the league on goal difference with 18 points similar to Kakamega Homeboyz, who also fired blanks against Bidco.

Last year’s runners up KCB joined Gor and Homeboyz after a 2-0 win over Ulinzi Stars slid them to 18 points.

In the relegation zone, newbies Vihiga Bullets are yet to win a match in the top flight league despite fighting back on Sunday to hold AFC Leopards to a 1-1 draw.

The Bullets who earned promotion after finishing second in the National Super League last season behind winners Talanta. Vihiga have played nine matches and are yet to win having drawn two and lost seven matches.

Elsewhere, Boniface Muchiri has left Tusker after five years at the club. He has been with Tusker since June 2017.

Muchiri, 25, will be joining Recruit Training School in Eldoret and upon completion of the military training, he will play for Ulinzi Stars.

Muchiri was honoured with an applause by Tusker’s players, technical bench and supporters who were at the stadium for the tie.

Coach Matano then presented him with Tusker’s yellow jersey that was signed by his teammates and had his name and jersey number (seven) printed behind it.
