Weeks after his South African club AmaZulu was relegated from the Premier Soccer League (PSL), Kenyan winger Paul Were has confirmed he is in talks with Gor Mahia for a possible move.
Were confirmed he has terminated his contract with the Durban-based club after they were relegated and has opted to return home for a year before considering other options.
"It is true, I have been approached by Gor Mahia and a deal is almost being reached. What is remaining are a few details to tie up and then we can move ahead with the deal," he said.
Were still had two years remaining on his AmaZulu deal but revealed that he did not have an option to continue staying there.
"The rules in South Africa make it very difficult for foreign players to feature in the lower league. The only option I had was to take a huge pay cut, which is the same as playing at home and so I opted to return and then see what I can do from here," he revealed.

Were, a former AFC Leopards player, said apart from the Gor Mahia deal, he was also looking at other options.
"My agent has received several offers and we are looking at all of them to see what is best for me."
He joined AmaZulu last year but struggled to get playing time at the club who were eventually relegated. Should he join Gor Mahia, he will become another player from the KPL who will be returning home after a failed bid to turn professional.
Elswhere, Kakamega Homeboyz have signed former Western Stima forward Ali Bhai as they seek to maintain their unbeaten run in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.
Homeboyz, who are currently at the top of the log, are the only unbeaten side in the 18-team league.
According to Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula, Bhai's signing could not have come at a better time.
"He is a very experienced player, having featured in the Kenyan Premier League, and we expect that this addition will bring stability to our squad," he said.
Homeboyz face high-riding Zoo Kericho this Sunday away and Shimanyula has predicted positive results for his side.
"Morale in camp is high and we expect to beat our opponents by at least two goals. We intend to keep our unbeaten run for a long, long time."
