The newly-constructed fountain in the heart of Kakamega town has been cited as a motivator of romantic relationships among the youth.
Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Bukhungu Stadium, Lurambi Member of Parliament, Bishop Titus Khamala, said many youth are attracted by the feature, and spend a lot of their time at the fountain taking photographs and exchanging contacts.
“On my way to and from town, I have spotted dozens of young men and women taking photos at the fountain. This is ends with a number of them exchanging contacts and marking the beginning of relationships,” said the MP.
The fountain is located along the Kisumu-Kakamega road, just outside the office of the governor at the county headquarters.
Khamala, who is the founding bishop of Cornerstone Church, said the fountain will be remembered for ages as the place where many families trace the beginning of their love journey.

The fountain was unveiled four days to this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta on October 20.
Khamala, who spoke at the event attended by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, praised the county boss and said he will be remembered as the man who brought young people together and inspired the starting of families in the county.
“It is very encouraging to see our youth mingle and have fun together. This is a milestone achievement that Governor Oparanya shall be remembered for in the decades to come,” said Bishop Khamala amid applause from the crowd.
“When the children of these young man are born, our population shall increase and the continuity of generations guaranteed. We commend the youth and encourage them to continue gathering at the fountain for photos and sustain the relationships that develop as a result of that. The lucky ones who find life partners and soul mates during those encounters should ensure that they grow their families and live in harmony,” the MP added.
The fountain has attracted a lot of praise from locals who believe that devolution has worked for the good of the county.
Most of the locals says they don’t need to travel to Kisumu anymore, thanks to devolution.
Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology was the first to have a fountain in the county. The university’s fountain is located outside its library.
Chrispinus Karani, a mitumba seller and resident of Lurambi town, lauded the construction works that were unveiled days for the Mashujaa Day celebrations.
“I was among the very first people to take photos at the fountain, which I have shared widely. Our children are seeing development that in our time was just a dream. It is true that the fountain has brought many people together because it is something new in this county,” said Karani.
