Kenyans have for the better part of the day been camping on Lilian Muli’s page after the Citizen TV anchor shared a picture of a black rose with the caption ‘The End”

Puzzled followers tried to decipher the meaning of th4e post with others drawing parallels with Zari Hassan’s post a few months ago.

In the socialite’s case, she used a black rose to call off her relationship with the father of her two kids, bongo star Diamond Platnumz.

The mother of five, broke the news of their separation via her page, stating that they were separating as partners and not as parents.

So back to the recent black rose, what could it mean? We visited the website mysticurious.com which revealed that black roses, in fact, do not naturally exist. They are a deeper shade of red or maroon. A quick spray of black paint will however give you the desired black rose.

When are black roses used?

1. Death and Mourning

In most cultures, death is referred and often associated with black. The news outlet explains that black roses are “included in funeral processions to grieve the loss of a loved one.” It is thus not unusual for a mourning person to post such images.

2. Rebirth and Rejuvenation

It adds that black roses represent the end of “old habits, eras and experiences” and usher new beginnings.

3.  Tragic Love

While it might symbolize the start of something new, it also carries the weight of bearing the bad news to a crumbled relationship. “A single black rose could symbolize the death of that relationship,” notes mysticurious.

4. Deep Devotion

As explained earlier, cultures vary. The flower is hard to come by, and if one is given the rose it “is indicative of a devotion that is deep and rare as the flower itself.”

5. Hatred, revenge

All flowers fall but thorns remain, right? Well if you have rubbed someone the wrong way and got the flower, think no more. Smell the rose? Get ready.

All in all we will have to wait for the reason behind Lillian Muli’s cryptic post.
