Randy Nyerians turn tea bushes into green lodging

Tetu residents have turned tea bushes into sex dens, where couples walk in for a quickie.

A quick survey by The Nairobian revealed used condoms and female panties scattered in the tea bushes.

Speaking to The Nairobian, Serah Wangui Kamau, a community health worker from Ichanganjiru sub location in Tetu, said the trend is worrying.

“The tea bushes make a comfortable place to hide for the couples who want to enjoy some good time. The dried tea leaves act like a soft bed for the couples while the canopy offers cover from prying eyes,” she observed, adding, “Some couples use lesos and have a special place where they keep their condoms.”

Benson Gachira, 23, told The Nairobian he lost his virginity in the tea bushes.

“I liked this girl from a neighbouring day school and when we decided to take things to the next level, I had no money to take her to Nyeri town, and I was afraid I could be caught by my parents in the house so we met in the farm,” he noted.

He reveals this is a common thing among the youth in the area and most of his friends have had sex in the tea bushes.

Gachira observed that one of the reasons why residents turn to the tea bushes is the lack of proper lodgings and hotels in the shopping centres.

“To enjoy such facilities, residents travel to neighbouring constituencies of Nyeri, and Othaya, which is far and expensive,” he added.

Kamau, who has worked in the area for seven years adds that most of the residents who turn to the tea bushes are married couples seeking illicit lungula away from their homes.

“We have many people who come to the tea zones to pluck tea. You will find them in groups of two or four. It is difficult to suspect what they are up to since they disappear in pairs once darkness sets in,” she explained.

She also claims that young men from the region prefer to have sex with older women whose husbands work in far off towns.
