Purity Wangui aspiring for the Kirinyaga County Woman Representative (center) with two MCA's

A wealthy couple has stirred Kirinyaga politics with their multi-million shilling land and aerial campaigns ahead of the 2017 general elections.

Business couple Andrew Ngirici and Purity Wangui are traversing Kirinyaga County using top-of-the-range vehicles and two choppers with their sights trained on the local Woman Rep seat for Wangui, a first-timer in politics, out to unseat incumbent Winnie Karimi Njuguna.

Wangui promises to alleviate poverty levels among women and the youth because “I shed tears when I see how women and the youth languish in abject poverty despite the numerous resources we are endowed with.’’ Wangui’s campaigns sometime feature as many as 7,000 boda boda escorts, each hired for Sh1,000.

Wangui is always in the company of her husband who explained that, ‘“When you see me here, I come as Wangui’s supporter, but when we get to our home, she is my wife.’’

Wangui’s entry into politics has swept Kirinyaga like a bushfire and not even Wanjiku Gatimu who came second during the 2013 General Election, nor nominated MCA Catherine Maribe, or Kuthii Muguchu, the County Assembly Speaker Ann Wangchi, have dared announce their intentions for the seat.
