The Busia county government has for the first time after three years issued bursary cheques to 1,800 bright but needy students.
While giving out the cheques, Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said there was still about Sh165 million at the National Treasury, accumulated for three years.
He said the county will soon receive the money to help learners from less privileged families.
The money will provide relief to students yet to join Form One and those who discontinued their studies due to lack of fees.

“By May we must have utilised all our money, including the remaining Sh165 million. We do not want roll-overs because there are many students in need of bursary,” said Ojaamong.
