More than 90 per cent of public schools in the country risk losing land they sit on for lack of title deeds.
The National Land Commission (NLC) yesterday told Parliament that only 2,070 out of 27,000 schools have acquired title deeds.
The commission made the revelation yesterday, when it appeared before the National Assembly Land Committee.
The MPs were told that schools on ranches and settlement schemes were the most affected as they were yet to be cleared for issuance of titles.
Abigael Mbagaya (pictured), the NLC vice chairperson, told the committee led by Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai that the commission was working to secure school land from grabbers.

“Most schools do not have titles. We have revoked some titles and reclaimed grabbed land," said Ms Mbagaya.”
