Students Organisation of Nairobi University (Sonu) Chairman Paul Ongili Owino alias Babu Owino has been charged with assault.
Owino denied the charges before Kibera Principal Magistrate Titus Gesora yesterday. He was accused that jointly with others who were not before the court he unlawfully caused grievous harm to Mike Jacob Odhiambo on March 20, 2016 at the height of Sonu election campaigns.
The offence allegedly took place at Shell Petrol station in Kileleshwa, Nairobi County. Jacob was competing against Owino for the Sonu chairmanship
Through lawyers George Kithi, Peter Omingo and Daniel Bosire the accused requested for favourable bond terms.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 with an alternative of a bond of Sh200,000 plus one surety of a similar amount.

The accused was arrested on Wednesday and spent the night at Kilimani Police Station following a complaint by Jacob.
Owino was re-elected in the contested Sonu elections that saw over 30 students expelled after violent riots erupted in the aftermath of the poll. The case will be heard on July 21 and mentioned on May 20.
