EMBU county government has disbursed Sh163.9 million worth of bursaries to needy students.
Governor Martin Wambora said the money will benefit 16,000 students in secondary schools, colleges, vocational training centres and universities.
This year's allocation is an increase from Sh70 million given in the last financial year. Wambora said his government plans to double the amount to benefit more students.
"We are committed to educating our children especially those from poor backgrounds, that is why we shall increase the figure next year," said Wambora.
At least Sh40 million was given out in 2014/15.
