A retired teacher from Mikinduri in Kasarani Sub-County found himself on the wrong side of the law after he was accused of physically assaulting his former wife during a late-night altercation.

Sambonanga Masame, who, despite being divorced, still shares a house with his ex-wife, Betty Chepngetich- in separate rooms-was charged with assault after a domestic row escalated into violence.

According to court reports, Masame returned home late at night and began banging on the door, waking the household. When Chepngetich opened it, she reportedly confronted him about disturbing the peace and endangering the safety of other family members by arriving at such an odd hour.

What followed was a shocking turn of events. Chepngetich alleged that her former husband grabbed her aggressively by the hair, slapped her, and even spat in her face. The incident reportedly occurred in full view of other family members and has since drawn attention due to the couple's unusual living arrangement post-divorce.

Masame has since been arraigned in a Makadara court, where he denied the charges levelled against him. Principal Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe granted him a cash bail of KSh10,000 as the case proceeds.

Elsewhere, a Ruai businesswoman landed in court after chasing down a patron who allegedly fled with a KSh 5,000 booze bill.

Wendy Nkatha, who operates a liquor business at Ruai Market, is accused of damaging a wall and door worth KSh30,100 at the home of her client's mother, where she had gone to demand payment for drinks consumed.

According to the charge sheet, the client drank on credit before claiming he had money at his mother's house. Nkatha took a boda boda and accompanied him there-only for the patron to vanish into the darkness upon arrival.

In a fit of rage, she reportedly banged on the door, waking the client's mother and causing damage in the process. The commotion drew in neighbours and Nyumba Kumi elders, who persuaded her to leave after she vowed to recover her money "by hook or crook".

Nkatha was later arrested and charged. She denied the charges and was granted a cash bail of KSh10,000 pending further mention on May 13.
