27 students on Sunday night narrowly escaped death after a matatu they were traveling in was involved in a grisly accident along the Kitui – Miambani murram road.
The students, from Mutukya, St Paul’s Mutula and AIC Miambani secondary schools in Miambani Ward in Kitui Central, were reportedly on their way back from a sporting event in Kitui Town when the crash occurred.
The vehicle allegedly experienced brake failure while driving down a steep slope and veered of the road then rolled several times before landing on its side near Vinda river.
According to area MCA Alex Nganga, only three students suffered serious injuries including broken limbs while the rest were slightly injured and were treated and discharged from Kitui County Referral Hospital where they had been rushed following the night crash.
The three casualties were admitted at the facility for further treatment.
