The ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast has not been the best outing for Kenyan athletes and today at 12:30pm, many will be waiting to see if they will continue its dominance in the 3,000m steeplechase.
None other than Olympic champion over the distance Conselsus Kipruto will be leading Kenya’s onslaught as they strive to protects the country’s dominance.
Kipruto who raced to gold at the World Championships last year in London to add to his Olympic gold medal in 2016 will be striving to make history by winning three consecutive global titles. Kipruto with a Personal Best time of 8:00.2 will anchor the Kenyan team of Abraham Kibiwott (8:09.25) and world junior champion Amos Kirui (8:08.37).
Uganda’s Albert Chemutai (8:23.18) and Mathew Hughes (8:11.64) of Canada will be striving to spoil the party for Kenyans.
Meanwhile, it is a riddle as to whether Kenyans will finally reclaim the men’s 10,000m Commonwealth Games title at Carrara Stadium today.

Josphat Bett, silver medallist in Glasgow, will lead Commonwealth Games 3,000m steeplechase champion Jonathan Ndiku and Ronald Kwemoi in chasing glory.
They will strive to reclaim title that Uganda’s Moses Kipsiro won in Glasgow in 2014.
Ndiku said: “Even when I was running 3,000m steeplechase, I used to train in 5,000m and 10,000m. It’s easy and we are hopeful of winning this race.”
He said his target is to run marathon at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. “In 2020 Olympics I will still run the 10,000m race but from 2021, I will focus on marathon and also engage in big city races,” he added.
They will face stiff challenge from Uganda’s world 10,000m silver medallist Joshua Cheptegei who already has a Commonwealth Games title after winning the 5,000m title last Sunday.
Ugandans Jacob Kiplimo and Timothy Toroitich are also in action.
