It is obvious that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s new Cabinet for his second term will be crafted with a view to helping Deputy President William Ruto for his 2022 bid.
This means that the team must be more representative and target individuals who will influence their communities to support Mr Ruto. One of the areas that needs to be given attention is Nairobi County. This county voted for President Kenyatta for two reasons.
First, the promise of a metropolitan status and secondly a Cabinet position. These are promises Uhuru has to fulfil otherwise the DP's bid could suffer rebellion. The Nairobi brigade which is led by former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru needs to be given a Cabinet slot.
Bishop Wanjiru is a grassroots mobiliser and a former legislator and she can serve as Ruto’s point person as 2022 approaches. As an assistant minister for Housing under Soita Shitanda, she achieved a lot, putting in mind that her boss was a sickly, leaving her to run the show.
As a politician and a church leader, the bishop stands a chance to rally Nairobi behind the DP in 2022.
