Amidst the frenzy or as P.L.O would term it, razzmatazz, of Peter Kenneth’s independent candidature declaration, people have too much to say but no one is asking the right questions.

If anything, you insinuate that he is ill-advised, I beg to differ. His intellectual capacity is neither needy nor malnourished to be ill-advised.

To evade a swarmed memory lane, let me cut it to 2013 general elections. With only a resume of a Member of Parliament, who was barely vocal in parliamentary proceedings, Peter Kenneth came to a short-lived desire to be the 4th president of Kenya.

He could not mind being the president but that was not his intention. His bet was come 2013 March; he will be a Machiavellian populist, have an assured seat in the cabinet or get an insane alliance merger offer.

Unfortunately for him, he didn’t get either, especially since Jubilee won. We forgot so easily how much of a rumpus and melee Kenneth created in 2013 by declaring his presidential race. He was a threat to Jubilee’s +1, if anything; Jubilee inflated his ego when they pleaded him to drop out.

In 2017, Peter Kenneth substituted a deck of cards for a darting brawl. From a gamble to the next, his caressed ego was ready to take another challenge.

The president learnt from the best teacher how to raw through the foggy waters of politics; it’s only in that school of life that you learn no opponent is too frail.

Given the unbending race with NASA, the last thing Jubilee needs is a vote ‘spoiler’ or a newly found hero by the people. Consequently, he made Peter Kenneth another person’s problem-Sonko.

Now that Kenneth became Sonko’s problem in the gubernatorial race, Uhuru’s boat keeps rowing on sea without a +1 threat.

Did he know he will lose? He was defeated at the pollsters, he went on for about 4 years, his intentions came out blurry to the Nairobi people, so yes, he knew he will be defeated if he run alone, however, with the collective name of the jubilee party and endorsement by the president, and the step down of Mike Sonko, then he was assured of a win.

This is how Peter Kenneth was played, two-timed, misled and outwitted. He was given an iced plastic cake, instead of cutting it, he took his time to wow at the icing and by the time he realized it was plastic, it was a tad late.

The last card on his table is not to be Nairobi’s next governor, but to stop Sonko from getting the seat and he might just accomplish that. As far as branding goes, Raila is opposition, Kenneth is a vote spoiler.
