Road construction in Mombasa, Changamwe area has been a blessing, as it is meant to ease traffic congestion. As one passes by there, you find large cranes and construction workers working and a Chinese looking fellow directing them but the jam that is caused raises a lot of frustrations.

Areas affected directly and indirectly are Migadini, Magongo, Portreitz, Mikindani, Jomvu and Miritini. In these areas, transport would cost 40ksh to 50ksh but now it costs 80ksh to 100ksh. Most people in these areas are low income earners and this eats up a large chunk of their earnings.

The trailers carrying containers from the seaport of Mombasa make the situation even worse as they stay for long hours waiting to get access to the K.P.A. gate, they move at a tortoise pace in and out of the seaport. The trailers sometimes break down making the situation worse.  Dwellers in this area have many times proposed that, during rush hours it become a no trailer time but no action has been taken.

Long distance travelers to Kisumu, Eldoret, Kakamega, Busia among others have been affected as they waste valuable hours due to this jam. The Airport which brings to Mombasa many people including tourists are affected too, those who want to catch their flight are many time late due to the unpredictable jam.
