Judge Tunoi agrees to public trial

Supreme Court judge Philip Tunoi has changed his mind and now wants his trial conducted in  public.

The new development came after Tuesday's decision that the public would be locked out throughout the proceedings.

It is unclear why the judge changed his earlier stand but the tribunal's chairman Sharad Rao confirmed the senior judge, alleged to have pocketed Sh200 million bribe, had finally settled for a public trial.

"The tribunal will sit tomorrow (today) at 11am and the judge has decided to have a public trial," Mr Rao said.

Justice Tunoi has persistently declared his innocence and denied having any links to the whistle blower of the bribery claims, adding that he did not prepare the judgement that salvaged Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero from losing his seat.

The judge claimed he was given the verdict for his approval.
