Kenya: The over 123,000 students who obtained the minimum university entry grade of C-plus have been assured of a fair admission process to institutions of higher learning.
Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service chairman Musyimi Ndetei said the placement exercise would competent and based on merit. “What we are saying is that we have a dedicated team. We shall endeavour to give the candidates the courses they applied for,” said Prof Ndetei.
The Universities Act 2012 under Section 55 provides for the establishment of a single placement board that is tasked with the responsibility of admitting students to both public and private institutions of higher learning. The service replaced the Joint Admissions Board. It is also mandated to place students in tertiary colleges.
Under the new law, the service will determine the cut-off points, allocate courses based on students’ performance and liaise with the Government to get priority courses.
