KISUMU COUNTY, KENYA: Clerics have condemned rising cases of in insecurity in Kisumu County and urged residents to remain calm as police seek to restore order.
The religious leaders criticised the foul murder in Nyakach where gangs raided the home of area MP Aduma Owuor, and killed his parents before setting their house ablaze in an alleged revenge attack.
Chairman Nyanza Council of Church Leaders Ogonyo Ngede and his Voice of Salvation and Healing counterpart Winnie Owiti asked the police to speed up investigations to curb any anxiety in the region.
“We pray for peace in the area. We appeal to residents to remain calm and not to fear anything,” Bishop Ngede said.

He appealed to the Government to also find a permanent solution to cattle rustling in the area that has led to loss of many lives.
“This problem (cattle rustling) has been persistent and now a long-lasting solution must be sought,” he added.
Bishop Owiti asked the Government to deploy more security officers and reshuffle the existing ones to restore sanity in the area.
“The police have conceded they are not in a position to curb the rising insecurity because of the huge population in Kisumu; we want them to be more vigilant so that we do not witness such vicious murder incidents,” Bishop Owiti said.
The clergy want a thorough probe into the death of the MP’s parents to ensure the culprits are punished.
At St Joseph’s Catholic Church Milimani, Father Vitalis Ogot asked the county government to work together with the national Government to curb rising insecurity in the area.
