Areas around Nairobi, and towards Kiambu have seen quite a bit of real estate growth, buoyed by ambitious infrastructural developments and a favourable climate.
One such development is Everdell Apartments located on the Thika-Garissa Road.
Ravi Sondh, the project manager, puts February 15 next year as the final date of construction of the first 60 units that will form the first phase of the three-phase housing project.
Going for Sh9.8 million for mortgage buyers and Sh9.5 million for cash buyers, the properties score high on the quality of workmanship and amenities.

A mahogany flash door, which is semi-solid, opens to a large sitting area. Everdell Apartments have spacious dining areas and sitting rooms. The sitting area has a door leading to the balcony, where seats can fit snugly.
The dining area opens to a kitchen space that is well decorated with brown wall tiles. The kitchen has washable wardrobes and utilities to fit a customer’s preference.
Well-decorated sinks and food preparation area gives the room an elegant feel. The kitchen is well made with a vertical area set to fit a large refrigerator and a horizontal one to fit a large gas cooker.
KITCHEN
A door connects the kitchen to a storage space. Another door leads from the kitchen to a utility room that has taps, drainage and open spaces. Sockets line the walls of the kitchen.
Built as three-bedroom houses, a single unit measures 146.5 square metres. Two of the bedrooms are en-suite, with well laid out floor tiles. The master bedroom, which sits at the corner of the house, measures 14.85 square metres.
Wall-to-wall scratchproof wardrobes form one part of the bedrooms, which are spacious and receive ample natural light. The bathrooms have wall-to-wall tiles and there is an extra bathroom between the sitting area and bedrooms for visitors.
The apartments have enough parking space on the cabro-paved compound for a homeowner with up to four cars. There is also parking for visitors.
A borehole supplements water from the supplier. An electric fence forms the boundary with gardens filling up the other spaces.
A management office is located near the main entrance, with a shop set to occupy the ground floor.
At the centre of the residential area is a garden that will form part of the children’s playground. The garden will replace a party hall that was initially set to be constructed.
However, with ample sunshine in Thika, one would have expected the developers would have thought of harnessing solar energy. But the project manager says they have not because they do not experience power interruptions in Thika.
Most modern projects have an alternative energy source to ensure continuity of power, and Everdell will rely on a relay generator installed on the site.
Within a kilometre radius, the property is surrounded by other amenities that include supermarkets like Tuskys, Nakumatt and Naivas. Thika town is also dotted with banks such as Kenya Commercial Bank, Standard Chartered, Barclays and NIC. Various nightspots and entertainment joints are numerous in Thika.
There are also learning institutions like Channia Girls, Braeburn School and Moi Forces Academy. Universities like Mount Kenya University, Kenya Methodist University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology are also in the vicinity.
Thika Level 5 Hospital, Aga Khan Clinic, Armed Forces Memorial Hospital and Meridian Medical Centre and Mount Kenya University’s hospital are also found in Thika.
According to Sondh, Everdell is the property to own.
“Everdell offers the most spacious rooms in the whole of Thika,” he says, adding: “The location is also 30 minutes’ drive to Nairobi, meaning instead of living in a rented house, you can own one here and still work in Nairobi.”
