The Kenya Rollball Federation will this week select a team for the second Rollball World Cup to be held in Kenya next month.

Kenya Rollball Federation President Samuel Litaba said they will hold selections on September 8 where a team of 15 men and 15 women will be picked for the World Cup on October 3-6.

The global event will be held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, and gymnasium.

Denmark, who was the winners of the first World Cup, and runners up India will be among the 25 nations present at the event.  The first event was held in Pune, India, in 2011.

Litaba said the organising committee is in place and is working on the details of the tournament.

“We have a Local Organising Committee (LOC) under the Department of Sports and it has support staff from the immigration department, security and medical departments, the Sports Stadiums Management Board (SSMB) and Kenya National Sports Council. They are at an advanced stage of organisation,” said Litaba, a lecturer at Kenyatta University.

The sport is a combination of handball and rollerblading and is mainly played by the youth. However, the dimensions of the goal are slightly smaller than those for handball.

“We are looking forward to a good performance given the home crowd. We expect the youth to turn up in large numbers to support us,” said Litaba.

He also called upon the corporate world to come on board financially and morally to support the event, whose budget is around Sh4 million.

“The Government has been very supportive and we are looking forward to more support from the private sector,” he said.
