Lira, Uganda: Defending champions Kakamega went on the rampage after they trounced Ntare of Uganda 63-3 in a tough 15s rugby preliminary match in Brookside East African Secondary Schools Championships in Lira, Uganda.
Kakamega recorded 11 tries and converted three to record one of the highest scores in the tournament during the event at Lango College on Tuesday.
Try scorers for Kakamega were Nelson Sangira (two), Alvin Otieno (3), Rodgers Gworo (2) while Mike Mwendwa, Bill Esabwa, Bush Mwale and Edgar Khafumi contributed one each for the defending champions.
After hitting Mbarara of Uganda 44-0 in their first match, St Mary’s Yala were not lucky in their second outing as they narrowly lost 12-13 against hosts St Mary’s Kisubi.

Kangaru, which is the third Kenyan team in the competition won their opening match after they beat Ntare 10-7 last Monday.
In netball matches, Kenyan teams had little to offer against Ugandan opposition after Obambo and Shimba Hills lost their opening matches.
Obambo, who are national champions went down 35-19 against St Julian of Uganda while Kibuli trounced Shimba Hills 35-5.
Netball is one of the areas that have been dominated by Ugandans over years.
Visiting teams would need to work extra hard to check the dominance of Ugandans in the discipline.
In hockey boys, former champions Friends School Kamusinga were in scoring mood after they humiliated St Charles Lwanga Kasasa of Uganda 19-0 in a one-sided encounter.
This was yet another huge victory for the former champions after they achieved 7-0 advantage against compatriots St Charles Lwanga in their first match of the event.
In girls’ category, national champions Sinyolo edged out St Cecilia Misikhu 2-1 in a tough match to brighten their chances of advancing to second round.
Sinyolo beat St Mary’s Namagunga of Uganda 16-0 in their opening fixture of the tournament. Defending champions Kerugoya had a rest day and they resume action with a date against City High of Uganda on Wednesday.
